3 easy steps to restore your photos

  1. 01

Take a picture of your photo, right at your kitchen table

Use your phone or a scanner. Either works. Your original never leaves your hands. (Prefer to mail it in? You can. Tracked and insured, and we send it back free.) Then choose your options and pay securely.

  2. 02

Our restoration experts work their magic

A real artist, not a program, sits down with your photo. They mend the tears and lift the stains, and they’ll add true-to-life color if you’d like. Most photos, honestly, take us about 4 careful hours.

  3. 03

Get it back and approve it before it’s final

Your restored photo arrives by email in a few days (24-hour rush available). Nothing is final until you say so. Free revisions until it looks exactly like you remember. Then, if you’d like, we’ll print it museum quality, ready to frame.

Remember when your town had a photo shop?

Someone behind the counter knew your name. You’d bring in a torn print of your mother, and a week later it came back in a paper envelope, mended, because the person who fixed it actually cared how it turned out.

Most of those counters are gone now. The drugstores shut their photo restoration desks. What replaced them are apps that run your mother’s face through a computer and hand you back a stranger.

We started MemoryCherish to bring the counter back. Real artists, most of them here in America, with 37+ years of combined experience between them. They restore photos one at a time, by hand, and they don’t call one finished until it looks exactly the way you remember. The only difference from the old counter is that you don’t have to drive, and the envelope arrives by email in a couple of days.

The MemoryCherish family

Keep your family’s memories in the family

Get your restored photos back and hang them where people will see them. Give the next generation a chance to:

  • Relive some happy episodes of your childhood
  • Feel the joy your parents felt on their wedding day

A single photograph can mean a lot. Pictures are more than paper. They remind us of a time we felt happy and loved. We work on each one by hand until it looks the way it did on the hallway wall, and if you’d like, we’ll print it so it can hang there again.

A heartfelt “Thank You!” to the folks at Memory Cherish for the great job they did restoring my precious photo! It was a color snapshot of my late husband and me taken outdoors in 1976 during our engagement celebration. The Kodak 110 Instamatic Pocket Camera leaked light distorting half of the photo which included my husband’s image. The entire snapshot had also discolored with age. Memory Cherish replied to my inquiries most courteously and promptly, and my questions and requests were resolved to my complete satisfaction. (FYI - I used their middle tier of service.) When I initially submitted the photo to be restored, I should have sent them other photos taken of the same people at the same event to assist the artist, but I did not realize until I requested a revision that it was possible do this. I will certainly use Memory Cherish again if I have another photo to restore!

Frequently asked questions

Do you have a location or shop in Atlanta?
No. We do not have a studio, store, or drop-off counter in Atlanta or anywhere in Georgia. We serve the whole city online and by mail. Real American artists do the restoration by hand, and you send your photo from home. That is the whole idea. You do not need a local shop anymore.
How do I get my photo to you if I am in Atlanta?
Two ways. You can upload a scan or a clear phone photo from home, which is what most people do. Or you can mail the original print to us. If you mail it, we suggest sending it tracked and insured so it stays protected the whole way.
My photos were stored in a hot attic and are stuck together. Can you help?
Yes. Heat and humidity damage is very common here, and it is exactly what hand restoration is built to fix. Send us the best image you can get, and our artists will rebuild the color, lift stains, and repair cracks and sticking marks by hand.
Do you use AI to restore photos?
No. Every photo is restored by a real American artist by hand. AI filters tend to flatten faces and invent details that were never there. Our artists keep the picture looking like the people you remember.
How long does it take?
Most orders are finished in one to three days. If you need it by a certain date, tell us and we will do our best to work with you.
What does it cost, and what if I do not like it?
Restoration starts at $38, priced by artist tier, never by how damaged the photo is. Revisions are free until you are happy, and you only pay when you love the result. Every order is backed by a 100 percent money-back guarantee.
Can you colorize an old black-and-white church or family photo?
Yes. We colorize black-and-white photos by hand in natural, believable tones. It is a favorite for old portraits and reunion pictures that families want to see in color for the first time.
Where can I get old photos restored?

Right here, from your kitchen table. There’s no shop to drive to anymore (most drugstore photo counters are gone): you take a picture of your photo with your phone, upload it, and our American artists restore it by hand within a few days. If you’d rather talk to a person first, call +1 (307) 218-6920.

Who restores old photos?

Real restoration artists do. At MemoryCherish, only humans ever touch your photo. Our artists have 37+ years of combined experience and have restored photos for museums, historical societies, and hundreds of thousands of families. You can meet the team on our Who We Are page.

Does Walgreens restore old photos?

Not anymore. Walgreens discontinued its photo restoration service in 2024, and most drugstore photo counters are gone. MemoryCherish is where those customers come now: restoration done by hand by American artists, from $38, delivered in a few days, with no store visit needed. Read our full Walgreens comparison here.

Can a photo that’s torn, faded, or water-damaged really be restored?

Almost always, yes. Even photos other services turned away. Tears, creases, water stains, fading, mold, fire damage, photos stuck to glass, photos in pieces: our artists restore them all by hand. And in the rare case a photo just can’t be saved, we’ll tell you honestly and you won’t pay anything.

What is photo restoration?
Photo restoration is repairing an old or damaged photo so it looks the way it did the day it was taken. Fading, tears, creases, water stains, mold, missing pieces: our artists mend all of it by hand, matching the original tones and detail. The goal is never to change the photo, only to bring back what time and damage took away, so the people in it look exactly like the people you remember.
Can I trust MemoryCherish?
Take a look at our before and after gallery and judge for yourself. Our artists have 37+ years of combined restoration experience, and they've restored photos for museums and historical societies. We'll take good care of your photos and work on them until they look the way you remember. And if you don't love the result, you get every cent back.
What degree of “damaged” can MemoryCherish handle?
Any of it, honestly. Scratches, fire damage, fading, mold, creases. Even a photo that's in pieces and blurry. Our artists repair any type of damage by hand and send your photographs back looking the way you remember them. See our before & after gallery.
How much does it cost to restore a photo?

You choose the artist level for your photo, and the price never depends on how damaged it is. The quickest way to see your exact price is to start your order, it takes about two minutes, you’re not committing to buy anything, and you’ll see your full total before you pay a cent. Free revisions and your digital files are always included, and nothing is ever added after. Prefer to compare first? The three artist levels are laid out on our Why choose us page.

Can old, damaged photos be restored?
Yes. Our restoration artists bring old, damaged photos back by hand, and they've seen just about everything. Blurry faces, bad color, photos that sat in a damp basement for thirty years. See what thousands of families say in their reviews, and why they come back to us with the rest of the shoebox.
Can faded photos be restored?
Yes. Fading is the most common damage we see, and one of the most satisfying to fix. Our artists bring back the detail and color that time washed out, working carefully and by hand. Place an order and see what your photo looked like the day it was printed.
How are my restored photographs delivered?
We restore each of our client’s photos digitally, meaning that you will receive your photo restoration as image files. If you decide to add-on museum-quality prints to your order, we will ship them out within 24 hours after you approve the digital photo restoration.
What if I don't like something about the photo restoration?
Each one of your photo restorations comes with a free revision. Because we’re confident you will love your photo restorations, we’ll happily give you back your money in the rare case we cannot resolve your issues and repair the photo damages to your satisfaction.
How soon can I get my photo restoration after I order?

Most photos come back in a few days. You’ll pick your speed on the order form. And if you need it tomorrow (a memorial service, a birthday), there’s a 24-hour rush. Tell us the date and we’ll treat it as a promise.

What if I need support with photo scanning?
Not to worry. You can choose to send us your photos in the mail for scanning if you would like. And for instructions on capturing your photos in the best way, our colleague Chris recorded a step-by-step video guide you can watch here.
Do you have a price list I can look at?

The simplest price list is the order form itself: start an order (about two minutes, no commitment) and you’ll see your exact total for your photo before you pay anything. You choose the artist level, and the price never depends on the damage. You can also see all three artist levels and what each one includes on our Why choose us page.

Who owns the rights to my photos?
You do. All rights stay with the owner (you). We get this question a lot from people who want their original pictures and prints kept safe, so we make a point of saying it plainly.
Should I just use an AI photo app?

You can try one free. Many of our customers did first. Here’s what they tell us: the app “restored” the photo, but the face that came back wasn’t quite Mom anymore. AI apps don’t recover your photo’s real details. They borrow face parts from strangers in a database and paste them in. For a photo of someone you love, that’s the one thing that can’t happen.

Our artists only recover what’s really there. That’s why every restoration includes a before-and-after comparison and your approval before it’s final: it has to look like her, or you don’t pay.

I have more questions. Is there a person I could talk to?

If you have any more questions, email our team at support@memorycherish.com, or give us a call at +1 (307) 218-6920. A real person will get back to you and walk you through anything you're unsure about.

Photo restoration for Atlanta, done from home

We restore treasured photos for families all over metro Atlanta, from Buckhead and Midtown to Decatur, Marietta, Sandy Springs, and the counties around them. Here is the honest part. We do not have a studio, shop, or drop-off counter anywhere in the city. You will not find us on Peachtree Street. What we offer instead is simpler than a trip across town in traffic. You send us your photo online or by mail, and a real American artist restores it by hand.

That means you never have to hand your only copy of a photo to a stranger at a counter, or hope a local print shop still does this kind of careful work. You stay home. The photo comes back looking like the day it was taken. For a lot of folks in Atlanta, that is easier and safer than driving around to find a place that still restores photos by hand.

What Atlanta's heat and humidity do to old photos

If your family has kept photos in Georgia for any length of time, the climate has been working against them. Atlanta sits in a humid subtropical belt. Long, hot summers and damp air are hard on paper and old prints. Moisture is the quiet enemy of every family album.

  • Attic heat. A closed-up Atlanta attic can get brutally hot in July and August. That heat bakes photos, makes them brittle, and can crack the surface.
  • Damp and mold. Basements and closets hold humidity. Over the years that leads to mold spots, a musty smell, and prints that stick together in a stack.
  • Foxing and yellowing. Those little brown freckles and the overall yellow cast you see on older prints tend to get worse in moist Southern air.
  • Silvering and fading. Color photos from the sixties, seventies, and eighties fade toward orange and pink, and black-and-white prints can take on a shiny silver sheen.

None of that means the photo is lost. Our artists have brought back pictures far worse than yours. They rebuild missing corners, lift away stains, correct the color, and repair cracks and tears one small area at a time. The damage the Georgia weather caused is exactly the kind of thing hand restoration is made to fix.

Family and church photos across the generations

The South keeps its photos. Family reunions, church homecomings, Sunday best portraits, the framed picture of a grandmother that hangs in the hall. Atlanta families hold onto these images and pass them down. When the print starts to fade, it can feel like the memory is fading with it.

We see a lot of church and family history in the work we do. A congregation photo from decades back. A wedding on the steps of a home church. A reunion picture with four generations in one frame. These are the photos people most want to protect, and they are often the ones the heat and the years have hit the hardest.

When you have one fragile original and a big family who all want a copy, restoration does something quiet and important. Once your photo is repaired, you can print it again and again for children, cousins, and grandchildren. One damaged picture becomes something the whole family can share and keep.

How it works when you live in Atlanta

You have two easy ways to get your photo to us, and neither one requires leaving home.

  • Upload from home. Take a clear photo of your picture with your phone, or scan it, and send it to us online. This is the most popular choice. Nothing leaves your house.
  • Mail the original. If you would rather we work from the physical print, you can mail it in. We recommend sending it tracked and insured so it is protected the whole way.

From there, a real artist gets to work by hand. Most orders are finished in one to three days. We send you the restored image to look at, and if something is not quite right, we revise it for free until you are happy. You only pay when you love the result.

What our artists can bring back

Our artists restore all kinds of damage, and they do every bit of it by hand. Never with an automatic AI filter.

  • Faded and discolored photos brought back to their true tones.
  • Tears, creases, and missing pieces rebuilt so you cannot tell they were ever there.
  • Water damage, mold spots, and stains cleaned away.
  • Black-and-white photos colorized in natural, believable color.
  • Museum-quality prints so the restored image looks its best on your wall.

Because the work is done by a person, the small things that matter get respected. A face stays looking like the person you remember. The character of the original photo is kept. It is careful, patient work, the kind that is getting harder to find at any local shop.

What it costs and our promise

Restoration starts at $38. The price is set by the artist tier you choose, never by how damaged your photo is. A heavily torn and stained picture costs the same as a lightly faded one at the same tier. You will never be charged more because your photo needs more work.

Our promise is plain. Free revisions until it looks right. You pay only when you are happy. And we back every order with a 100 percent money-back guarantee. We are rated 4.96 out of 5, and more than 400,000 families have trusted us with their photos. You can be one of them from right where you are in Atlanta.
